Physical activity #29: Building the movement habit - Making it stick
This session builds directly on last week's daily movement timeline activity. Students already have a picture of their current movement patterns; now they'll learn the psychology of habit formation and use that knowledge to design realistic, personalized movement routines that fit their actual lives.
Expected Outcomes Students will recall how habits form and why they stick or break down, recognition of their personal identity as it relates to movement and exercise, ability to connect new movement habits to existing daily anchors, increased confidence that sustainable movement habits are achievable, and a concrete personal plan for building movement into their routine.
Learning Objectives By the end of this session, students will be able to:
- Explain how habits form using the cue-routine-reward framework
- Identify their current movement identity and how it shapes behavior
- Name at least 3 existing daily anchors they could stack movement onto
- Design a personalized habit stack using their real schedule
- Articulate one small, specific movement commitment for the coming week
